Study culture in organizations
The one-year-full-time English-language Master’s programme Culture, Organization and Management places organizational problems and management issues in a social and cultural context. Organizations are hubs in society: they support social structures and mediate and channel social change. Students learn how, in this age of globalization, organizations can suffer serious economic and social consequences as a result of inherent cultural bias, or of underestimation of the cultural dimension.

Culture, Organization and Management integrates anthropological, sociological and psychological approaches to identity, politics and cross-cultural cooperation, combined with management and organization theory. The Master’s programme requires students to develop an interdisciplinary academic, critical, and investigative research-focused attitude. As a COM student, you have to be able to empathize with the inner world of others, while simultaneously continuing to wonder what drives and motivates them. You will learn to understand complex situations and analyse these from different angles.

The  Master's programme requires students to develop an interdisciplinary academic, critical, and investigative research-focused attitude. In the first semester students follow a number of in-depth seminars, using mainly qualitative research methods,  which typify the ethnographic approach in organization studies. In the second semester students conduct fieldwork research for their master's thesis in an organization and country of their choice under individual supervision of experienced staff members.

Career prospects
The prospects for graduates of the Master’s programme Culture, Organization and Management are favourable (see also: Alumni BCO en COM doen het goed op arbeidsmarkt), with international jobs available in a wide array of sectors. Many graduates become consultants. Others obtain positions with corporations as commercial officers (e.g. in customer relations) HRM officers (e.g. in recruitment), or policy supports officers (e.g. in internal communications). Many corporations are currently engaged in processes of change. In the Master’s programme in Culture, Organization and Management you acquire the knowledge, skills and capabilities to provide you with excellent qualifications to study organizational change and to formulate creative solutions. The non-profit and public sectors increasingly demand COM graduates specifically for interdisciplinary teams.

If you have academic ambitions and want to pursue a career in education and research, you can go on to become a scientific researcher. The Master’s degree adequately prepares students to continue at PhD level, which takes four years in the Netherlands.
