The need for European cooperation is increasing. There is a growing demand on the international labour market for graduates who know from personal experience what it means to study and work in an international environment. Good communication is needed to do business abroad or to debate on an administrative level. European Studies graduates are European professionals in strategic communication in the public and private domain. Therefore, knowledge of both the public and the private sector and knowledge of other languages and cultures are of great importance. The focus of European Studies is on Europe, but during the study programme you will never close your eyes for the relationship between Europe and the rest of the world.
Entrance requirements
Generally speaking, a secondary school diploma will give access to our study programme, e.g.:
Abitur or Fachhochschulreife
Extra requirement
Proof of a good command of the English language. A secondary school graduation level is required for EU-students. Students from outside of the EU are required to take an IELTS (score at least 6) or TOEFL test (computer-based score at least 213).
Study programme
Courses
You will be taking a wide range of courses, for example: Intercultural Communication, European Law, Politics, International Organizations, and Public Affairs. Europe is the binding element in all these courses. As you will be trained in conducting presentations, debating, interviewing and (copy) writing, your communicative skills will reach a high level. You will also develop your social skills because of the many group assignments. The programme offers you a well balanced mix of lectures, group activities, project work and individual assignments.
What will you learn?
In a European context you will be working in a group on tasks that are derived from the professional field. These tasks entail providing strategic communication and policy advice, developing the associated plans, organising events and representing an organisation.
You will be provided with knowledge to carry out these tasks and you will:
- learn about the foundations of Europe, by studying how major events in history, politics and cultures have shaped the European continent.
- learn about the European institutions, policy making and culture and the impact it had and has on national and local governments, society and companies
- develop your communication skills and knowledge of English and French, German or Spanish.
Skills
At European Studies team work is a substantial part of the programme and leads to developing your team-working, practical, organisational and communication skills in these European projects.
