Introduction
DNA and protein are the secret codes of the human body. Decipher the codes and you will get an insight into bodily processes. In Nijmegen we offer a multidisciplinary Master’s programme in Molecular Life Sciences. Working at the interface of chemistry, biology and medical science, you will not only explore the basic principles of molecules and cells, but also their role in health and disease. This combination of scientific topics translated into medical implications and solutions is unique in the Netherlands.
Top scientists
The programme is closely associated with two institutes that have an excellent international reputation: the Institute of Molecules and Materials and the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences. You will enter a dynamic research environment, work with top scientists, learn about the latest developments in your discipline and conduct research in state-of-the-art laboratories. Thanks to cooperation with the neighbouring University Medical Centre, there is continuous exchange between Lab and Clinic.
Great freedom
You will be given considerable freedom to follow your own interests. Two internships are central to the programme. You choose a specialisation and you join a related research group, for example Anthropogenetics, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Neurobiology or Bioinformatics. You will have your personal tutor who will help you decide which subjects and research to follow. Your second internship will be with a different research group. You can also choose to follow an internship abroad or within a company. In making your choice, you will be able to benefit from the extensive international networks of our scientists.
Requirements
1. A completed Bachelor's degree in Molecular Life Sciences or related area
Required is the equivalent of a Dutch Bachelor's degree in Molecular Life Sciences. This degree must have an adequate multidisciplinary basis in especially Chemistry and Biology and some Physics and Mathematics (as evaluated by the Examination Board).
2. A proficiency in English
The language requirements for Master's programme in Molecular Life Sciences differ from the general language requirements!
In order to take part in the programme, you need to have a sufficient level of English. This requirement has been satisfied when the student provides us with one of these documents:
 |
TOEFL score of >550 (paper based) or >213 (computer based) or >80 (internet based)

| |
Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Proficiency in English (CPE), with a mark of at least C |
3. A background in research methodology
Our programmes is based on research, because we are an academic university and involved in many international research projects. Therefore, we require a basic research training.
Application Procedure
1. Research Master's programmes
Step 1: Contact programme coordinator
The enrolment procedure takes one step extra for Research Master's than it does for our Regular Master's programme, since an interview with the programme coordinator and/or your intended supervisor precedes the online application.
On the programme pages of the Research Master's you can find the details of the coordinator of the programme of your choice. Please contact him or her first if you seek admission to one of the Research programmes.
Step 2: Online application
The official application procedure starts as soon as you have been allocated a supervisor. After the programme coordinator has officially approved your application and has admitted you to the programme, you can proceed with the general application procedure.
2. Regular Master's programme
Students who want to apply for a Regular Master's programme can continue with the general application procedure straight away which you can find on: http://www.ru.nl/masters/master%27-programmes/man-health/master-molecular/application/
Deadlines
Our university has set a deadline for enrolment in Master’s programmes given in English. Non-EEA residents who apply before 1 March will be guaranteed accommodation, support with visa and residence permit. If you apply after this date, we will still consider your application but we cannot give any guarantees. For Master’s students from one of the EEA countries, this deadline is 1 May of each year.
