This four-year Bachelor Programme is offered by NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, which is located in the city of Breda, in the south of the Netherlands.
In leisure it’s all about surprise and emotion. So captivating and unforgettable experiences, and ones which you create. Creativity is the essence of your work, but also important are a strictly directed planning, a well-conceived business plan and a substantiated budget.
You will work on developing new leisure products on the basis of changing trends, you are responsible for the marketing or alternatively, you are occupied with the organisation of a congress, an event or an exhibition. You find solutions using an integrated management approach.
Career perspectives
Leisure managers find positions at cultural institutions, theatres, leisure and sports facilities, tourism and recreation organisations, conference and event organisation agencies, or government organisations.
You may be responsible for running an organisation, organising exhibitions, conferences or events, or developing new leisure products based on research among target groups.
You may also be involved in the organisation of a major music event catering for 10,000 visitors, or in the formulation of policies for the promotion of top-class sport or the development of a promotion plan.
 Contents and career planning
The first year offers an introduction into the tourism & leisure industry. Furthermore, you will be introduced into marketing & business management basics. Moreover, you will make a start in the field of concept development.
In the second year you will explore the professional activities of the leisure manager. In addition to projects such as ‘Imagineering and Project Management’, ‘Marketing and Entrepreneurship’ and ‘Leisure City Management’, you will follow training sessions focusing on skills like negotiating, professional interviewing and effective intercultural teamwork.
In the third year you will work on projects such as ‘Imagineering and Marketing’ / ‘Branding Experience’ and ‘Customer-Oriented Entrepreneurship’. Most of the third year, however, is occupied by the placement (about seven months). You may either perform your placement for a company in the Netherlands or abroad.
In the first half of the fourth year, students work on a large-scale project, secured from the leisure industry. You may, for instance, organise a festival, write policy plans or investigate the marketing activities of a sports club. The second semester of the fourth year is reserved for your individual graduation project.
Tuition fee
The tuition fee for BACHELOR PROGRAMMES is for EU students EURO 1.672,00 (except International Media and Entertainment Managament) and for non EU students EURO 7.295,00. The tuition fee for the master programmes Imagineering, European Tourism Management and Tourism Destination Management is EURO 8.422,00 regardless the country of origin. How to apply
If you want to apply for this Bachelor programme, you should have completed secondary school or secondary vocational education. Apart from that, if you are a non-native speaker of English, you have to show your proficiency in English through an IELTS test (minimum score 6.0) or TOEFL test (minimum score 550 paper-based or 213 computer-based).
The course always starts in September.
