Arts and Heritage is an interdisciplinary master's programme focusing on the theory and practice of cultural policy, management and education. In this context, heritage is regarded as a component of culture in the wider sense of the word. The programme has a strong international and professional orientation. This is a one-year programme, offered in both Dutch and English.
objectives
The key subjects of the study are the definition, meaning and boundaries of the terms 'art', 'culture' and 'heritage'. Other key questions in the AH programme are:
- What has been acknowledged or appreciated as a work of art, a cultural manifestation of heritage?
- When, by whom, how and why is that the case?
- What have been the effects? A thorough understanding of the theory and practice of interpretation, presentation, conservation, management and education in the arts and heritage sector.
instruction modes
The programme offers an integrated curriculum on the basis of different educational methodologies. The modules in the first semester are made up of three components, each with a specific purpose and education format: the workshop, expert seminars and (guest) lectures. The tutorial groups or workshops are student-centered and based on collaborative and Problem-Based Learning (PBL). Besides the workshop, each module of the first semester contains two seminars, in which experts teach about practice.
