Artificial Intelligenz-Uni
Hochschulen, die diesen Studiengang anbieten: An intensive, 2-year, English-language programme that teaches the development of intelligent systems that can learn, reason, & collaborate. Perform task more efficiently & optimally.
The Artificial Intelligence programme addresses the development of intelligent systems with the ability to learn, reason, and collaborate. These abilities enable intelligent systems to perform tasks more efficiently, optimally, and in a distributed manner. Practical applications range from planning and diagnosis to image recognition, from traditional games such as chess to modern interactive computer games, and from information retrieval to data mining. A group of enthusiastic researchers at the Department of Knowledge Engineering is currently developing systems for domains such as cultural heritage, air traffic control, bio-informatics and computer games. Master's students can write their theses in these and other domains. This is a two-year programme taught in English.

Introduction
In the Master’s programme Artificial Intelligence (AI) you will learn how to advance the study of brain and cognition by adopting typical AI tools, such as computer simulation, brain-computer interfacing and robotic design.
Specialisations
Depending on your personal and career interests, you can specialise in one or both of the following domains:
1. Brain-Computer Interfacing
2. Cognitive Artificial Intelligence
Moreover, you can specialize in fundamental or applied research.
Unique character
This programme has a unique character, focusing on connections between artificial intelligence and cognitive neuroscience. Understanding how the brain works and how it supports intelligent cognitive behaviour is essential for effective agent design. In turn, agent design can lead to hypotheses about how intelligent behaviour is realized by humans.
Top facilities
The programme is closely related to the research carried out in the internationally renowned Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour. This institute has several unique facilities for brain imaging using EEG, fMRI and MEG. You will be able to use these facilities for developing new experimental research techniques, as well as for developing new machine learning algorithms to analyse the brain data and integrate them with brain-computer interfacing systems. You will also cooperate with the Behavioural Science Institute and work in its Virtual Reality Laboratory, which can be used to study social interaction between humans and avatars.
Admission requirements for international students
1. A completed Bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence or related area
2. A proficiency in English
In order to take part in the programme, you need to have a sufficient level of English. This requirement has been satisfied when the student provides us with one of these documents: |
TOEFL score of >550 (paper based) or >213 (computer based) or >80 (internet based)
| |
IELTS score of >6.0
| |
Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Proficiency in English (CPE), with a mark of at least C |
Application procedure
The enrolment procedure for Research Master's programmes differ from the procedure for our Regular Master's programmes. You can find both procedures below.
1. Research Master's programmes
Step 1: Contact programme coordinator
The enrolment procedure takes one step extra for Research Master's than it does for our Regular Master's programme, since an interview with the programme coordinator and/or your intended supervisor precedes the online application.
You can find the details of the coordinator of the programme of your choice on our website: www.ru.nl. Please contact him or her first if you seek admission to one of the Research programmes.
Step 2: Online application
The official application procedure starts as soon as you have been allocated a supervisor. After the programme coordinator has officially approved your application and has admitted you to the programme, you can proceed with the general application procedure.
2. Regular Master's programme
Students who want to apply for a Regular Master's programme can continue with the general application procedure straight away.
Deadlines:
Our university has set a deadline for enrolment in Master’s programmes given in English. Non-EEA residents who apply before 1 March will be guaranteed accommodation, support with visa and residence permit. If you apply after this date, we will still consider your application but we cannot give any guarantees. For Master’s students from one of the EEA countries, this deadline is 1 May of each year. You will receive an admissions decision approximately three months after have sent in your request for admission.
Some (Research) Master's have set their own additional deadlines. Please go to the Master's programme of your choice to find out about these deadlines.
