| |
Start date: September
| |
Language of instruction: English
| |
Length: 2 years, full-time, 120 EC |
Introduction
Computer systems now penetrate virtually all facets of society and personal life in what is commonly referred to as ambient computing. But ensuring the safety, reliability and quality of these systems is a growing problem. This Master's Programme in Computing Science trains you to become a specialist who is able to find solutions to these problems. You will receive a thorough theoretical training and learn to think creatively. In this way you will be able to contribute to developing future techniques.
Programme
The programme is structured as follows:
 |
Mandatory courses (23 EC)
| |
Specialisation courses (24 EC)
| |
Minor courses (25 EC)
| |
Elective courses (18 EC)
| |
Master’s project (30 EC) |
If you wish, you can chose management courses instead of the minor courses and in this way prepare for a job in the business sector.
Experts in Computing Science
This programme is closely related to the research carried out within the Institute for Computing and Information Science (ICIS). You will be trained by top researchers and ICT experts. Research at ICIS centres on three themes: Model-based System Development, Digital Security and Intelligent Systems. Our research in these areas is leading the field internationally.
ICIS researchers recently broke the Mifare Classic RFID chip that is used by millions, for instance, in the London Oyster card and the Dutch OV chip card. You choose a research group that fits your own interests and then become involved in its ongoing research.
Many choices possible
We offer students a great deal of choice. Cooperation with the Donders Institute for Brain Cognition and Behaviour makes it possible, for example, for them to specialise in artificial intelligence and neural networks. The Master’s track Mathematical Foundations of Computing Science involves close cooperation with mathematicians. Within the Kerkhoffs Institute – a cooperative venture with information scientists from the Technical Universities of Eindhoven and Enschede – students can follow the Master’s track Computer Security.
Admission requirements
1. A completed Bachelor's degree in Computing Science or related area
In general, you are admitted with the equivalent of a Dutch Bachelor's degree in Computing Science. If there are gaps in your knowledge, you will follow - under the guidance of your tutor - an individually tailored modular programme. This will contribute a maximum of 30 EC (as evaluated by the examinations commission)
2. A proficiency in English
The language requirements for Master's programme in Computing Science differ from the general language requirements!
In order to take part in the programme, you need to have a sufficient level of English. This requirement has been satisfied when the student provides us with one of these documents: |
TOEFL score of >550 (paper based) or >213 (computer based) or >80 (internet based)
| |
IELTS score of >6.5
| |
Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Proficiency in English (CPE), with a mark of at least C |
