Programme summary
Landscape Architecture and Planning focuses on the deliberate construction and reconstruction of the environment. It involves research into and the planning and design of landscapes to create, maintain, protect and enhance places. The study integrates concepts and approaches from the arts with those from the natural and social sciences, and incorporates the latest advances in technology. Landscape Architecture and Planning is concerned not only with the creative process of making plans and designs on various spatial scales and temporal horizons. It also involves the organisation of interactive or participatory decision-making processes with the aim of generating plans and policies. Attention is also paid to developing and managing scientific knowledge.
Your future career
Graduates in Landscape Architecture and Planning work in various fields and positions related to landscape, land use and the environment. The programme prepares students for three major career paths: Planning and planning consultancy, landscape architecture and landscape planning, and landscape research. Most graduates are employed by consultancy and engineering companies, planning and design bureaus, water boards, government agencies and universities. A number of graduates work for large, multinational firms (such as Oranjewoud, Arcadis or Grontmij), while others are employed by small and medium sized companies.
