Introduction
Studying Biology starts with a fascination for life. Nowadays, global concerns about how living organisms and the environment affect each other are issues of the modern society we live in. How humans, animals and plants adapt to their environment is the central question in Nijmegen's Master's of Biology. The mechanisms that lie underneath this adaptation are studied on a large scale, ranging from the smallest living entities, such as molecules, cells and pollen until larger entities such as ecosystems, river courses and entire populations.

Rich programme
The MSc. programme not only covers a multitude of organisms and places interactions between them into context, it also integrates all levels of organisation from the molecule and the cell up to ecosystems and the landscape. This combination of experience results in a rich and coherent MSc. programme of Master's courses and exciting internships with state-of-the-art research. It prepares you for a career in science, both fundamental and applied, but also provides the necessary knowledge for innovative evidence-based applications in nature and water management.
Admission requirements for international students
1. A completed Bachelor's degree in Biology or related area
In general, you are admitted with the equivalent of a Dutch Bachelor's degree in Biology with relevant subjects. If you do not have all the right subjects, you will need to catch up in a taylor-made transition programme, depending on your prior education. It may take a maximum of six month and will be evaluated by the examination commission. For more information on transition programmes, please contact Ms. C. Mooren (c.mooren@science.ru.nl).
2. A proficiency in English
The language requirements for Master's programme in Biology differ from the general language requirements!
In order to take part in the programme, you need to have a sufficient level of English. This requirement has been satisfied when the student provides us with one of these documents:

TOEFL score of >550 (paper based) or >213 (computer based) or >80 (internet based)

Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Proficiency in English (CPE), with a mark of at least C |
Application Procedure
1. Research Master's programmes
Step 1: Contact programme coordinator
The enrolment procedure takes one step extra for Research Master's than it does for our Regular Master's programme, since an interview with the programme coordinator and/or your intended supervisor precedes the online application.
On the programme pages of the Research Master's you can find the details of the coordinator of the programme of your choice. Please contact him or her first if you seek admission to one of the Research programmes. www.ru.nl
Step 2: Online application
The official application procedure starts as soon as you have been allocated a supervisor. After the programme coordinator has officially approved your application and has admitted you to the programme, you can proceed with the general application procedure.
2. Regular Master's programme
Students who want to apply for a Regular Master's programme can continue with the general application procedure straight away.
Deadlines
The Master’s programme
Our university has set a deadline for enrolment in Master’s programmes given in English. Non-EEA residents who apply before 1 March will be guaranteed accommodation, support with visa and residence permit. If you apply after this date, we will still consider your application but we cannot give any guarantees. For Master’s students from one of the EEA countries, this deadline is 1 May of each year. You will receive an admissions decision approximately three months after have sent in your request for admission.

Programme summary
Biological issues are at the forefront of the technological advance of modern society. They are central to global concerns about how we affect and are affected by our environment. Understanding the complexity of biological systems, at scales ranging from single molecules to whole ecosystems, provides a unique intellectual challenge. With over 30 biological research groups, Wageningen University can offer tailor-made MSc biology programmes that allow students to specialise in a fi eld that appeals to your personal interest. To prepare for a successful international career, we strongly encourage our students to complete part of their programme requirements abroad. Admission requires basic training in all fundamental biological disciplines.

Your future career
Many graduates from the Biology programme enter careers in fundamental and applied research or go on to postgraduate studies. Some find a position as communication offi cer, manager or decision-maker. Most of our graduates find a job within six months of graduation. Compared to other Dutch universities, twice as many biology graduates from Wageningen University find a position abroad.
