Natural Science-Uni

Type of programme: Regular Master's programme (MSc.)
Start date: September
Language of instruction: English
Length: 2 years, full-time, 120 EC

Introduction
New insights emerge at the point where disciplines come together and, in order to understand how things work, it is important to study them from all angles. This is the approach we have chosen in teaching Natural Sciences. As a Master’s student you will find yourself at the interface of biology, chemistry and physics as you work to discover the secrets behind man, molecule and materials.

Programme
The programme is structured as follows:

Major internship including 12 EC theory (60 EC)
Minor internship including 6 EC theory (30 EC)
Elective courses and philosophy (30 EC)

Top research
The programme is closely linked to two internationally recognised Nijmegen institutes: the Institute for Molecules and Materials and the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour. Both have state-of the-art equipment capable of identifying the characteristics of molecules, materials and the human brain. There are the magnets in the High Field Magnet Laboratory (HFML), the NMR and MRI facilities, the free electron laser and the NanoLab. Little wonder that both institutes attract top scientists from all over the world. As a Master’s student you will find yourself in a dynamic research environment working alongside scientists who are leaders in their field.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements for international students
1. A completed Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences or related area
Entering the Master's in Natural Sciences requires a bachelor degree in Natural Sciences that is the equivalent of a Dutch university diploma. Bachelors in related subjects (Chemistry, Physics) from foreign universities will be checked for their level of knowledge in the three core disciplines before they can be admitted. They will usually have to follow some additional courses (max. 30 EC) to relieve deficiencies.
Students with a Bachelor's in Biology or Molecular Life Sciences cannot enrol in the Master's programme in Natural Science. Their deficiencies exceed 30 ec. They may however be able to follow a shortened bachelor education track.
2. A proficiency in English
The language requirements for Master's programme in Natural Sciences differ from the general language requirements!

In order to take part in the programme, you need to have a sufficient level of English. This requirement has been satisfied when the student provides us with one of these documents:

TOEFL score of >550 (paper based) or >213 (computer based) or >80 (internet based)
IELTS score of >6.5
Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Proficiency in English (CPE), with a mark of at least C

Deadlines
The Master’s programme
Our university has set a deadline for enrolment in Master’s programmes given in English. Non-EEA residents who apply before 1 March will be guaranteed accommodation, support with visa and residence permit. If you apply after this date, we will still consider your application but we cannot give any guarantees. For Master’s students from one of the EEA countries, this deadline is 1 May of each year. You will receive an admissions decision approximately three months after have sent in your request for admission.
Some (Research) Master's have set their own additional deadlines. Please go to the Master's programme of your choice to find out about these deadlines.
