Sports and Physical Activity Interventions-Uni
In this programme you learn to evaluate the effectiveness of existing exercise and sports activities and systematically design, implement and disseminate intervention programmes.
Obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart diseases: daily physical activity can help prevent all sorts of chronic diseases. But our busy lifestyles and physical challenges (e.g. injuries and old age) create barriers to exercise. How can we overcome these obstacles to move towards better health? In this programme you take a practice-based approach to helping people lead more active lives. What are safe and effective methods for staying fit? Can modern technology help create new and improved treatments for rehabilitation after accidents? How can technologies like Wi-Fi help people in elderly homes stay active? How can companies prevent sick leave by motivating employees to cycle to work?
This programme will give you:
- insight into the social, psychological, environmental, genetic & metabolic determinants of sports, physical activity & health
- understanding of the biological & psychological barriers people face in getting fit, and how to motivate people to overcome these challenges
- expertise to recommend the right forms of exercise for different target groups
- solid background in developing, implementing & evaluating programmes to promote sports and physical fitness.
This is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time programme taught in English.
