Students in this programme learn to manage living resources in all types of water bodies, natural or man-made. Subjects covered include ecosystem studies, nature conservation, the sustainable production of aquatic foods, animal welfare and ecosystem health. Graduates of this programme are competent and qualifi ed professionals in the fi elds of marine resources, marine ecology, fi sheries and aquaculture. You will have the skills to study, maintain and, if necessary, restore living aquatic resources in natural and man-made systems. The programme also provides a thorough understanding of the biology and ecology of aquatic organisms and water bodies, and the factors that infl uence the quality of life of these organisms in the aquatic realm. Graduates are skilled in techniques and methods for analysing and solving biological and environmental problems in aquatic systems. Your future career
Our graduates work in multidisciplinary teams for aquaculture companies, feed producers, zoos and aquaria, while other start their own businesses. They also work as consultants and policy-makers, especially for national and regional governments and agencies (such as ministries and water boards) and for consultancy firms. Many graduates also go on to conduct research at universities (often as PhD students) and contract research organisations.
